This is definitely not your typical velvet brocade, but that is what makes me love it. The pattern is not the usual swirly ornate embossing, which to me makes it more versatile. It's also thinner with a fairly short nap, which makes it great for casual wear as well as accessories. Great shine and texture, and easy to cut and sew.

This velvet material is very nice and very soft. I actually got it to use as the inside liner for jewelry and keepsake boxes. It is very easy to work with and holds very well with sprayed adhesive..10/10 recommend

Unlike other reviewers, the piece we got is just about exactly the size ordered, with nice straight cuts.The feel is different than we expected, but suitable for our purposes.If you've ever petted a cat's nose, you'll understand what I am about to say; if not, you may still get the idea:When you pet a cat's nose, going in one direction is smooth, going the other direction kind of "ruffles" the nose fur. That's the way this material is -- when you smooth your finger along it in one direction, it's soft and smooth, but when you go the opposite direction there's a definite feeling of "ruffling the fur".Neither has the exact feel of "velvet".The black brocade has a subtle "pattern" very similar to bird feathers or cat fur, with a slight silvery line in contrast to the black background.We'll make throw pillow covers with the material. It sews nicely, and does not fray easily.

I ordered a half yard of this fabric. The piece I received was a bit jaggedly cut, but all dimensions were slightly larger than expected - the cut is generous, if uneven.The fabric itself is very thin. Front and backing are slick. The pictures do a good job conveying the overall texture of the front. It is a very thin, flat fur-like pattern in slight wave configurations. It's more slick to the touch than soft; running your hand along it is either smooth or ruffles the pattern against the grain. It doesn't resemble any kind of traditional velvet feel.
